I personally love my AMD Athlon X2 5000+. But I also love my Core 2 Duo. If you want to save money go with AMD, they provide very competitive performance for much less money.
Staples has an I/O Magic 3.5 enclosure that I just got. Setup was very easy with good instructions just in case you don't know what your doing. It's a fanless aluminum case that looks pretty good. Uses usb 2.0. So far it has worked perfectly.
